Different types of equipment and methods used in cleaning .
The main method of cleaning utilised by the majority of carpet and upholstery cleaners is the hot water extraction approach! this is where a cleaning solution is added to water that is heated to a required temperature then the solution is jetted into the fibres of whatever is being cleaned and is almost instantaneously sucked back of with the net result of a cleaner and fresher carpet .
It must be pointed out that their are huge differences in the range of hot water extraction machines being used ranging from the often woefully inadequate smaller portables (poor suction very little pressure = poor cleaning ) to the top end portables that can do a reasonable job of cleaning to the top of the range truck mounts that we favour using because of the extra power they have which results in much more thorough cleaning and vastly improved drying times.
Dry cleaning approach towards cleaning carpets and upholstery.
Some companies promote the fact that they offer a dry cleaning service for upholstery and certain oriental rugs quoting remarks like faster drying no over wetting of carpets etc, in truth their is no such thing as a dry cleaning because even solvents are liquids and upholstery cleaned with such will take as long to dry as a suite cleaned using a high powered hot water extraction system, these solvents also have the added problem of leaving very heavy vapours that can be quite toxic in enclosed spaces especially for people with respiratory issues, this is why the operator carrying out the cleaning should always be wearing a high filtration mask to protect one self from the harmful effects of the solvent being used. These are issues that many clients are unaware of because most companies do not like to advertise such negative concerns.
